Clouds That Go Up, Norway
Pastel on pastel paper This work attempts to represent what the sky looks like on winter days in Norway when, generally, the sun comes up at an extreme angle to the land, rises little and goes down towards the west, still at an extreme angle to the land. This results in odd 'sunrise' and 'sunset' sky color effects that can last all day and imbue the sky and clouds with pink and salmon tinges. The clouds, themselves, in the Oslo area, will also appear to 'go up' - not go 'across' the sky, as they do in Chicago, where I'm from.
